Glasgow City Chambers

Completed in 1889, Glasgow City Chambers is an eminent example of Victorian civic architecture with many ornate features. The sheltered nature of the north-west corner of the inner courtyard makes it an ideal habitat for pigeons. The site is enclosed on three sides, with a recessed alcove in the north elevation. Previous attempts to eradicate the pigeon infestation had all been unsuccessful. Starting on 2 June 2014, the north-west corner of the courtyard was cleaned of all nests and faeces, and spikes, which had proved ineffective, were removed. Bird Free Optical Gel was then applied to six floors of the building.

On 11 September 2014, three months after installation, Scott Dickson of Access, a dedicated company that provides specialist property services to Glasgow City Council, commented:

“The pigeon infestation in the north-west corner of the City Chambers’ courtyard had been severe for some time, and previous attempts to eradicate it using nets and spikes had not been successful. Two years later, on 1 September 2016, Scott Dickson further commented:
